RDC 2023 Highlights
This past weekend Roblox hosted their annual Developers Conference (RDC), where creators came together to connect, learn, and see what the future of Roblox holds. The first day consisted of Keynote presentations from Roblox’s leadership team, including CEO Dave Baszucki. The entire thing spanned almost 3 hours long, so I’ve condensed it into a shorter video that showcases just the new features and product announcements. You can watch the full video below.
An Update on the Innovation Awards
This year, the 2023 Roblox Innovation Awards (RIAs) were supposed to occur live from RDC 2023. However, due to a security concern, the show had to be postponed. CEO Dave Baszucki gave an update a few days ago stating that they are working on an alternative.
Roblox on PlayStation: Release Date
At this year’s RDC, Roblox revealed that an official PlayStation app was coming “next month.” Thanks to an official Blog post from PlayStation, we now have an official release date—October 10th! You can add Roblox to your Wishlist right now to get notified as soon as it releases.
Creator Marketplace Reviews
Users can now leave written reviews on Creator Marketplace assets in addition to the currently available thumbs up or down ratings. Only those that acquire the asset are able to submit reviews.
The community can also mark reviews as helpful for potential future users.
Anti-Cheat on Microsoft Store (UWP) App
Roblox has released their 64-bit client backed with Hyperion anti-cheat to the Microsoft Store (UWP app) version of Roblox. You will need to update to the latest version of Roblox in the Microsoft Store to see the changes. Previously, anti-cheat was only available on the desktop client. Anti-cheat is also expected to come to Android devices in the next few months, as announced at RDC 2023.
Updated Guidelines for UGC Bodies and Heads
Roblox updated the Documentation for UGC Bodies and Heads to include new examples and additional language to clear up some of the questions and concerns based on community feedback. You can review the updated guidelines here.
VR Camera and Comfort Updates
Additional camera and comfort options have been added to Roblox in VR, including a new default third-person camera that follows your avatar to keep it in view, as well as new configurable comfort and field of view levels to reduce motion sickness.
New Curriculum Paths in Creator Documentation
Roblox has launched two curriculum paths in the Creator Documentation that deep dives into different game development disciplines to show you how to build and script high-quality experiences.
The Core Curriculum teaches you how to build, script, and polish a platformer where players collect coins to trade for jump power. It provides a comprehensive introduction to creating in Studio and is an excellent starting point for creators.
The Environmental Art Curriculum teaches you how to create a high-quality environment for a first-person shooter laser tag experience. It provides in-depth instruction on level design, asset development, and performance optimization that you can later apply to your own experiences.
Prime Gaming Loot Drop
Every month, a new avatar item is released exclusively to people who are subscribed to Amazon Prime. This month, users can claim the Clutch Missile Launcher back accessory now through October 10, 2023.
Jason Kilar Joins Roblox’s Board of Directors
Former WarnerMedia, Hulu CEO Jason Kilar has joined Roblox Corporation on the Board of Directors. Kilar will serve as a member of the Audit and Compliance Committee of the Board and the Leadership Development and Compensation Committee of the Board. Roblox Now Support Thai
In addition to 11 other languages (Spanish, German, French, Italian, Brazilian, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Indonesian), Roblox is now supported in Thai. สวัสดี!
