Host Virtual Events with Creator Events 2.0
A few years ago, Roblox announced a new way to host virtual and physical Roblox events and meetups through a “Community Events” program. This program allowed select developers to host their own events on their events page for others to sign up and attend. Due to the rise of COVID-19, Roblox never came around to adding physical meetups to the events platform.
This week, Roblox announced a new version of the Community Events program, now called Creator Events, on a new hosting platform. This new platform offers a wide range of new tools to help Creators engage with their audience and provide additional content. You can find or lead a wide range of events from workshops where you can learn and follow along with community professionals to create on Roblox, game jams where you can compete against your fellow community members to create awesome projects, panel discussions where you can learn from community experts and ask them questions and much more! Head to the Developer Forum to learn more.
Reimagine Advertising with the Ads Manager
The brand new Ads Manager offers advertisers valuable control over their Immersive Ads campaigns, empowering them to create, optimize, and measure ads effectively while reaching their campaign objectives. Advertisers can use this tool to manage their ad campaigns, ads reporting, and ads billings in one place. To access the ads manager you need an ad account. Ad account creation has the following pre-requisites:
- A Roblox account registered for users 18 years or older. The age limitation ensures legal compliance for advertiser partnerships.
- A verified email address on file. The verified email enables correspondence about your account.
Breeze Into Wind
With the new Wind property, Roblox Creators can set a direction and strength in which wind will blow through experiences and will notice that any grass, clouds, or particle effects you have in your experience react realistically to the wind.
To make it easier to tune the Wind to exactly the way you like it, the new Wind widget will allow you to visualize how the wind is currently blowing using a wind sock and gives you a direct way of modifying the speed and direction of the wind. The Speed, Yaw, and Pitch of the wind can be varied by clicking the corresponding aspects’ name on the left and using the slider to set the desired value. The Yaw can also be modified by clicking the green circle and rotating it left or right, while the Pitch can also be modified by moving the blue arrow up and down.
Build Applications with OAuth 2.0
The Roblox Open Cloud strives to unleash a vibrant 3rd-party application ecosystem to serve the diverse needs of the community. It includes a rich set of standardized APIs and an authorization/authentication framework that allows these APIs to access Roblox Cloud. Roblox started with API Keys as the auth method so you can write your own scripts and tools. OAuth2.0, on the other hand, allows Creators to build applications that can be used by the rest of the Roblox community.
For those not familiar with OAuth 2.0, it is a system that allows you to make external websites, tools, bots, and other software to not only lets users sign in with their Roblox user identity but also get their consent for your apps to access their Roblox resources. Here’s how to create your own OAuth 2.0 app:
Login With a One-Time Code
Remembering passwords is a thing of the past. Now, you can log into your Roblox account with a one-time code. Just click Email Me a One-Time Code to enter a verified email and receive a one-time code. Once you enter the correct code, you are in! This feature is currently only available on roblox.com/login. Roblox is working on releasing this feature to the mobile and desktop apps shortly. To learn more and view FAQs, read the announcement.
Updated Menu UI
Roblox is testing another new in-experience menu that more closely resembles the UI of the older menu. This new menu is available on desktop and mobile devices, and has only rolled out to a percentage of users on the platform. Roblox has been testing a different in-experience UI with a completely new layout since 2019, and has yet to roll it out to all users. It is currently unknown if this new menu shown will replace this “old” new one.
Parallel Luau v2
In the initial release of Parallel Luau, there were many cases where communicating with an Actor or associated scripts could be inconvenient. This week, Roblox introduced two key features to make communication more convenient and to open up new ways to communicate efficiently; Actor Messaging API & SharedTable. Learn more about everything new and improved in the announcement.
Roblox Now Supports Indonesian
In addition to Spanish, German, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, Roblox now supports Indonesian, upping the total number of supported languages on the platform to 11.
