Roblox Weekly: August 6–12, 2023
Additional Audio instances coming soon, new Audience analytics in the Creator Dashboard, and Q2 2023 financial results!
Welcome to Roblox Weekly, a newsletter series covering the latest and greatest news, announcements, and events that happen on the Roblox platform. Let’s recap everything that happened for the week of August 6–12, 2023…
New Audio Instances Coming Soon
The newest Roblox Studio release (v588) adds tons of new Audio instances, however none of them are functional as of now. These new instances will help creators add more immersion to their experiences with brand new ways to customize how audio sounds.
Public UGC Publishing Requirements
Roblox has plans to make the UGC Avatar Marketplace open to the public later this year. Thanks to some new strings discovered in the backend, we now know what the publishing requirements are for uploading and selling items. You will need to verify your ID to unlock the ability to save 3D UGC from Studio, and subscribe to either Premium 1000 or Premium 2200 to put it on Sale.
Larger Rollout of New In-Experience Menu
A few months ago, Roblox started testing another new in-experience menu that more closely resembles the UI of the older menu. This new menu is available on desktop and mobile devices, and has only rolled out to a percentage of users on the platform.
This week, Roblox has started rolling out this new menu to more users across the platform. It still has yet to roll out to everyone. A few new notable changes include a more transparent background, and larger Leave, Reset, and Resume buttons to more closely resemble the current menu.
Audience Analytics
With the new Audience Analytics page on the Creator Dashboard, Roblox creators can break down an experience’s monthly active users (MAU) by country, language, age, and gender.
With the Country chart, you can see a world map that includes all countries. You can also view the top 10 countries by percent of total MAU.
The Gender and Age charts the age and (for the first time) gender distribution of your players.
The Language chart tracks the language distribution of your players.
Rig Visualization in 3D Importer
Rig Visualization, now available in the 3D Importer in Roblox Studio, creates a skeleton highlighting attachments and their relationships to each other in the importer’s 3D preview, helping you ensure that your rigs are properly interpreted before committing to an upload.
This feature can be toggled on and off from the root node of a model either through the rig settings panel or through a button in the corner of the preview window. Rig Visualization will also surface after selecting any joint within the model hierarchy and highlight the selected joint within custom rigs.
Introducing the Roblox Career Center
This week, Roblox announced the launch of the Roblox Career Center — an experience directly on Roblox where early career candidates can dive into the platform firsthand and learn what it’s like to be a part of Roblox as a company.
In this experience, you can explore an immersive environment showcasing what working at Roblox has to offer, plus complete quests to earn some exclusive items for your avatar.
