Roblox Begins Rolling Out New Anti-Cheat Software to Combat Cheaters and Exploiters
Last year, Roblox acquired Byfron Technologies to help build their new anti-cheat software.
If you’ve ever played a video game in your life, you are probably aware of the massive problem with cheaters hackers exploiting and ruining your experience. Games like Fortnite and Apex Legends have advanced systems in place to combat these sort of issues, but Roblox has never had a proper way to do so. Thankfully, this is all beginning to change.
Back in October 2022, Roblox announced that they would be acquiring a company that specializes in developing anti-cheat software called Byfron Technologies. In the official announcement, Roblox made this statement:
“Byfron has developed a state-of-the-art anti-cheat solution that is being utilized by some of the world’s largest game publishers. The team is also passionate about competitive gaming and security, so we think they’re going to be a great match for our community. With their deep domain knowledge and security engineering expertise, we will be accelerating our roadmap to build robust anti-cheat and security solutions. This includes client-side and server-side anti-cheat, alt accounts detection, and additional tools for developers to combat cheaters. Integrating Byfron’s technology into the Roblox platform will improve experience security, protect the competitive landscape, and to allow developers to spend more time building their experiences.”
On Wednesday, Roblox pushed their weekly client update (v574), and with it came the brand new “Hyperion” anti-cheat software. This software scans your PC and blocks you from launching Roblox if you have any third-party programs that can be used to modify or hack the client. With this release also came an upgraded 64-bit client on desktop (Windows). The upgraded 64-bit client (up from 32-bit) will help improve performance and quality. Until the 64-bit client is rolled out, exploiters can still roll back to the 32-bit client that does not include Hyperion to cheat. Once the rollout is complete, Roblox will be turning off the 32-bit client from the backend.
Some users have been concerned about what kinds of third party software this new anti-cheat system will detect, as using certain ones could get your Roblox account terminated. Obviously it is intended to put a stop to harmful software used to cheat and exploit, but it seems other harmless programs like the Roblox FPS Unlocker, reshaders, and auto-clickers. As of writing this post, we have not heard official word from Roblox on the full release of this software, nor what, if any, programs will be whitelisted.
We are still waiting for an official announcement with more details from Roblox regarding the new Hyperion anti-cheat software. I will keep you posted on my social media and update this article with more information as it becomes available.
